Welcome to the Jen Kelly Wellness Blog!
Welcome to the Jen Kelly Wellness blog! I’m so glad you are here! I am guessing you are tired of the “sick care” system and looking for a different approach to you and your family’s health? Well, let me just give you a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS! It’s not easy to step off the sick care system train and to take control of your own health and wellness. Now, don’t get me wrong, I do believe that allopathic care is absolutely necessary for certain things - emergency situations, certain infections, etc. but for the most part, I strongly believe that we can and should be our own advocates for our health and wellness.
It can seem like a very daunting task to do your own research and learn about all of the ways to take good care of yourself. I am here to help guide you on this journey.
I have been learning about ways to help our health since I went to massage therapy school in 2002. My hubby and I got married that summer and I started my schooling at Irene’s Myomassology Institute shortly after we got married. I loved every single minute of my studies at IMI and learned so much about how amazing and smart our bodies really are. The human body is always trying to get to a balance or homeostasis and it innately knows what to do.
While at Irene’s, I was introduced to another way of thinking. I would actually go home and tell my husband, Tom, that the people at IMI were really strange. I heard about how harmful antibiotics can be to the gut, how massage and different massage modalities can be very healing, how pop/soda can be very bad for you, and many other things that I had never heard before.
I grew up in a middle-class family where we drank pop, ate junk food, ate at fast food restaurants, etc. We went to the doctor anytime we had anything wrong with us - even a simple cold. I used to get bronchitis and strep throat each year and took antibiotics every time, sometimes even a couple times a year. There are times when antibiotics are needed but taking them on a yearly basis was destroying my gut’s microbiome. No one ever talked to me about this, ever.
As I went through the massage therapy program, I started to shift my thinking. I was very open to learning and thought there had to be a better way to approach good health. I am so thankful that I made that choice, was open-minded, and will share more about that journey soon.
Just know that you, too, can change your thoughts about health and wellness and you don’t have to be a slave to the system.
To YOUR health!
Jen
